Low Testosterone Level Leads to Erectile Dysfunction

As published by the Science Daily last June 20, the testosterone level should be closely monitored as it is related with erectile dysfunction.

According to Dr. Aksam Yassin, erectile dysfunction is crucial to a man's overall health. In a recent study conducted, there seems to be a correlation among different health problems like high blood pressure, obesity, cholesterol and erectile problems. All of these are said to be intertwined, and are all related with testosterone deficiency.

Men who experience dysfunction could find the problem very distressing, but it is not fatal like some known health problems. However, studies also show that erectile dysfunction could be a sign of heart disease. Experts claim that there is indeed a connection between erectile dysfunction and heart disease. If you know the relationship between the two, there is more chance of saving yourself from more serious problems of heart disease. Some factors deemed related with heart disease that can also cause erectile dysfunction are as follows:

  • Atherosclerosis. This mainly reduces the blood flow to the heart that would eventually cause coronary artery disease. Also, the blood vessels in the penis could be affected that leads to erectile dysfunction in the long run. Problems with erections could likewise be a sign of heart problems.
  • Medications. If you have been too many medicines, you should check if some of these can cause erectile dysfunction as some drugs are said to cause erectile problems. Some drugs intended to solve erectile dysfunction could cause a problem when taken with drugs treating heart disease.
  • Depression and anxiety. Many scientific studies have actually found a concrete connection between erectile dysfunction and heart disease. Feeling too stressed and anxious could also be a cause of erectile dysfunction.

Understanding Atherosclerosis

The build up of plaques within the arteries is medically termed as atherosclerosis. This apparently prevents the flow of blood to the heart, brain, legs and penis. If some arteries in the body are suffering from atherosclerosis, the other arteries are in high risk of getting affected as well. Thus, blood flow could be gravely affected. If blood could not flow into the penis, there erectile dysfunction is highly possible.

This is exactly the reason why experiencing atherosclerosis could mean having increased chances of having a heart disease. If you have not consulted your physician yet, and you are not sure if you have a heart disease, erectile dysfunction could provide an answer. It is considered as an effective warning sign to say that there is something wrong with the blood vessels, which could be translated into a heart problem.
